Saint Barnabas Parish Life Ministries
Parish Life stretches our faith outside the worship ministries, meeting our social needs and challenging us to grow as one community. Our community is a strong, supportive environment where we meet, share common resources, work to achieve common goals and nourish a lively and social sense of co-responsibility to build and sustain Christ’s church on earth.
Barnabas Backers
Our Sports Ministry co-ordinates sporting events for our school, John Paul II Academy, and for adults of the parish and community.
BarnaBees
An informal group of parishioners meet regularly to create quilts to be donated for the benefit of the parish community.
Bereavement Ministries
Bereavement Ministry-Parishioners represent the parish by attending the vigil service for the deceased at the funeral home.
Funeral Servers-Primarily made up of adults who are willing to assist the priest as he offers the Mass of Christian Burial for the deceased.
Parish Pall Bearers-Compassionate stewards of the parish assist from the funeral home to our church to the cemetery.
Sunshine Basket Ministry Members of the parish prepare food for the bereaved family to provide a luncheon after the funeral of one of our parishioners.
Bereavement Luncheon Ministers of hospitality prepare, set up and serve a lunch consisting of Sunshine Basket items to families of deceased members of our parish after their return from the cemetery.
Golden Key Club
Organization for parishioners aged 55 and over which sponsors social, recreational activities and bus trips. Meets first Sunday of each month at 12:45 p.m.
Jolly Retirees
An informal group of retirees play cards on Mondays from noon until 4 p.m. in Hospitality House.
Lenten Fish Fry
Friday social event the first six Fridays in Lent. A time to come together for food and fellowship. Parishioners of all ages lend a hand and work together.
Ministry to the Sick and Homebound
Homebound Ministry-Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion take Holy Eucharist to parishioners who are homebound.
Suburban Hospital Ministry-Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion take Holy Eucharist to Suburban Hospital patients.
Hillcreek Manor Nursing Home-Parishioners assist the residents and/or help provide the music at Mass or a Communion Service on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion take the Eucharist to residents on Sundays.
Parish Outreach-Members of the parish spend time visiting parishioners in nursing homes.
Prayer Blanket Ministry-Members of the parish sew simple blankets that are blessed by the pastor and the congregation and are distributed to the homebound, sick, those facing surgery or recovering from illnesses.
Parish Celebrations and Receptions
The parish hosts annual feast day, Christmas and social gatherings. We are also called upon to host occasional receptions. This ministry plans and facilitates events to bring the parish together socially.
Parish Monthly Hospitality
One weekend a month members of the parish serve refreshment after weekend Masses offering social time for parish members and reaching out to newcomers.
Parish Newsletter
Parishioners create, publish and distribute our parish newsletter, “The Barnabas Messenger” quarterly. All parishioners are encouraged to submit photographs or articles of interest.
Parish Phone Tree
This ministry aids in communicating important information about parish activities.
Pinochle Club
Couples play at members’ homes monthly and enjoy spring and holiday potluck dinners in the cafeteria.
Scouting Programs
Develop a strong sense of self and learn life skills through scouting. All levels of Boy Scouting and Girl Scouting are available in or through our parish.
Summer Picnic
Parish summer picnic is held the second Saturday in July. This parish fundraiser brings the parish and the community together as they work for the good of all. Stewards of all ages work to make the annual event a success.
