Mission Statement
The St. Barnabas Parish Community gathers
to worship and celebrate life. With small beginnings
in September 1953, the parish of St. Barnabas became rooted
in the Roman Catholic Tradition. We acknowledge our
debt of gratitude to Fr. Donald Gallagher and the Sisters
of Charity and to those Catholics who planted the seeds of
the Catholic Faith in the Hikes Point area. With the
leadership of our pastor, Fr. Wayne Jenkins, and the pastoral
staff, in union with Archbishop Joseph Kurtz and our Holy
Father Benedict XVI, we are dedicated to live Christ’s
call to declare the Good News.
We firmly believe that as part of the universal Church, we
are sent by the Lord Jesus: |
|
|
- To proclaim the Good News of Salvation,
- To serve others in the loving manner Christ
showed us,
- To be good stewards of the gifts God has given
us, and
- To celebrate our sacramental life and seek
unity at the Lord’s table.
Having been formed and shaped by our past,
maturing in the present and with a vision of the Church to
come, we seek to prepare ourselves through lifelong education,
liturgy, service and ministry.
We're committed to be an integral part of
our society in seeking ways of peace and justice, a world
that is free of war and violence. Through our presence
in Hikes Point, we seek to embrace a ministry of reconciliation,
healing division with our brothers and sisters in other Christian
traditions. June 2000 |
